The Lagos state Health Budget scorecard evaluates key budget performance indicators such as transparency and timeliness of budget releases, citizens/CSOs participation in budget development process and adequate resource allocation to the health sector.
The Data indicates that the Lagos state government needs to make improvements in Health Budget transparency.
Therefore, the Lagos State Accountability Mechanism for Maternal and Newborn Health (LaSAM) calls on the Lagos State Government to:
- Ensure draft budget is published online to enhance public access in budget planning processes.
- Develop and keep track of releases based on annual work-plans developed by the State Ministry of Health (SMOH).
- Ensure that health accounts are produced on an annual basis by the SMOH.
- Ensure over 70% of budgeted funds for capital projects are released on time.
