THE YOUTH OF SALONE STANDS UP FOR CHANGE?

MamaYe decided to implement a 90-day pilot project that will use mobile technology with the help of our corporate partners Africell and African homegrown application Telerivet, to drive messaging and empower young people become more aware about the quality of care in their community health facilities.
We decided on three things, 1. We wanted to work with Youth - the young energetic brilliant and Sierra Leonean women and men 2. We were going to provide messaging, information, support and push for ACTION through the use of Mobile phone 3. The emphasis would be on Safe Clinics for Sierra Leonean mothers and babies with an extra focus on safe water and good sanitation in clinics across Freetown as imperative to saving more lives of our mothers and babies. The rest we would figure out as we went along. And we trusted that the passion and energy in young people would lead the project forward. So far, post our induction workshop, we are excited that our theory is proving right.MamaYe decided to implement a 90-day pilot project that will use mobile technology with the help of our corporate partners Africell and African homegrown application Telerivet, to drive messaging and empower young people become more aware about the quality of care in their community health facilities. Applications went out early February and ten days later we had over 260 responses from students, youth leaders and young people from all corners of Freetown. We asked a simple question, WHAT WILL YOU DO TO BUILD A MORE PROSPOROUS FUTURE FOR SIERRA LEONE, we received a plethora of answers and with much difficult and through a rigorous selection process, selected 50 students to participate in the Mobile4Change Project! The induction day, Saturday March 1st, saw the influx of 50 students in one room come to meet one another, become acquainted to the MamaYe campaign, create their own Mama character and learn more about the importance of safe water and good sanitation in our health facilities. In short, it was a day of excitement and learning. As we embark on the next 90 days, this project will work closely with each student, continually inspiring and encouraging each and everyone of us to get active, speak with our community and play our part in ensuring that MORE of our clinics become safe by addressing issues surrounding water and sanitation.Follow the journey, feed back to us, participate & let us know how YOU would like to contribute to building a more prosperous Sierra Leone.
