In its quest to involve everyone to take part in saving the lives of mothers and babies MamaYe campaign has recruited one of the prominent people in society as a national activist. The newest activist is a member of parliament for Dedza east and chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Health. She is no other than Hon Juliana Lunguzi MP.Coming from a health background, Hon Lunguzi is well-versed with maternal health and as she signed the forms she told me ‘it is my bread and butter’.Signing a prominent person like Juliana Lunguzi to be an activist is not a mean achievement as she brings into this campaign a vast knowledge of maternal health having previously worked for UNFPA here in Malawi and abroad. She was also a lecturer at Kamuzu College of Nursing.MamaYe is so excited to have Hon Juliana Lunguzi as an activist because she is well known in the country as a health activist and her joining politics, has added chances of representing the grassroots at a higher level where she can lobby for policy change and hold the authority accountable.Recruiting Hon Lunguzi will also give an added advantage to MamaYe to penetrate in her area in Dedza East constituency. The area can be used as a model in organizing the community to take part in blood donation and safe motherhood initiatives to villages around with the help of the MP.She joins a band wagon of MamaYe activists from all walks of life like:Kabanza operators (bicycle taxi drivers)Chinsapo Secondary School studentsMalawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ)Silver Strikers Football Teamand many more....MamaYe is for everyone and together we are MamaYe!!!
