Yobe Voice & Accountability Mechanism
Yobe Voice & Accountability Mechanism (YOVAM) was established in the year 2016 as a state led accountability mechanism bringing together civil society and government. Its focus is amplifying citizens voice in health governance and advocating for transparency, accountability and effective delivery of RMNCAH+N services in the state.
Priority areas of focus
YOVAM uses effective advocacy communications approaches such as Political Economic Analysis (PEA), health budget tracking and analysis, budget performance reviews, scorecard development, community scorecards, partnerships and development of evidence briefs. They have been able to realise success as follows:
In 2018 they advocated and secured 15% allocation to the health sector in Yobe State in line with the Abuja Declaration commitment.
In 2019, YOVAM carried out a rapid assessment during cholera out break in Bade Local Government Authority (LGA), and use the outcome as evidence to advocate for strengthening of Health Security frameworks in Yobe State.
In 2020, YOVAM produce IEC Materials and carried out sensitization on Prevention and control of COVID-19 in 34 communities across the state.
They have recently carried out an assessment on the effective provision of Primary Health Care (PHC) services whilst responding to COVID-19 Pandemic and disseminated findings to key stakeholders in the state.
They have successfully advocated for and secured increased funding for FP & nutrition services.
