Lagos Accountability Mechanism for Maternal Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Coalition
The Lagos Accountability Mechanism for Maternal Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (LASAM4CMNAH) Coalition was established in February 2016 with support of E4A-MamaYe. Its key objective is to act as an accountability mechanism that monitors, reviews and takes action to ensure the implementation of the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health.
This coalition’s goal is to reduce maternal and new-born child mortality through effective budget implementation and provision of quality health services in Lagos State by end of December 2023. By engaging in evidence-based advocacy, LASAM aims for policy makers to make informed decisions that improve quality of care for mothers and children.
Priority areas of focus
LASAM4MCAH works to achieve change in three areas: evidence informed Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) action plans, increased funding for MNCAH activities and effective MNCAH budget implementation without budget distortion.
In the past, the coalition in 2017 achieved a specific family planning budget line in Lagos State. During the COVID-19 pandemic it successfully advocated for the release of 81.04% of approved Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health+ Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) budget.
