Niger State led Accountability Mechanism Coalition
The Niger State led Accountability Mechanism (NiSAM) was established in 2019 by the Niger State government and other non-government actors in line with the Niger State Strategic Health plan. NiSAM’s goal is to achieve a reduction in maternal, newborn and child mortality through efficient funding and timely release of funds for the provision of quality MNCH services by 2022.
Priority areas of focus
Priority areas of change that NiSAM aims to achieve in Niger State are: improved evidence-based planning and budgeting; increased funding for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) service by government, donors, and through innovation funding; improved quality of MNCH services through effective budget and implementation; reduced maternal and newborn child mortality through effective budget implementation; and provision of quality health services for women and newborn children.
This coalition has brought together government and civil society to strengthen Maternal Perinatal Deaths Surveillance & Response systems. It also strengthened accountability processes at the primary healthcare level through the bi-annual budget reviews.
