Ms. Afrique Montreal winner from Sierra Leone gives back to her home country, Sierra Leone.
Aminata Bintu Wurie is a graduate of the prestigious Mcgill University in business management and international development. Shortly after her graduation she entered Ms. Afrique Montreal and won the competition, been of the very few Anglophone winners in the history of Ms. Afrique. Since then her goal has being to better promote her home country Sierra Leone and help contribute to the development and empowerment of mothers and babies in Sierra Leone. She uses her background in development to talk to young women, inspire them to follow their dreams and in turn raise funds to help support the development of a neonatal unit in Sierra Leone. Aminata has organized a sprint-a-thon that will be taking place in Montreal, Canada on the 22nd of September of this year. The purpose of this event is to honor, raise awareness and raise funds in support of mothers and babies in Sierra Leone.Aminata was inspired by MamaYe to ACT NOW and DO SOMETHING to contribute in ensuring that more clinics are safe in Sierra Leone. " i cannot make a clinic safe with a click of my fingers, however i can do something, however small it may be to help make even ONE clinic a safer place to give life." The Sprint-a-thon's tag line is "2 hours to save a life" reiterates the aim, a small act during a short time can make a difference. " it is about getting people to know more about the MamaYe Campaign, the health situation for mothers and babies in Sierra Leone and feeling like however small their efforts may seem, it can still make a difference," Aminata says, " it may be a very big problem to solve, but it is about accumulating small acts that can lead to change".For more information about the SPRINT-A-THON visit HERE. Aminata believes in making a difference and for her, it starts with the first step.
