WRA's Communications Officer, Vicent Mnyanyika introduces you to a petition, as part of their on-going campaign called "Be accountable so Mama can Survive Childbirth. If you are Tanzanian, please sign and tell others. Every year, over 8700 women die in Tanzania due to complications in pregnancy, childbirth and post-delivery. This number is equivalent to 24 deaths every day and one woman every hour. These deaths could have been avoided if pregnant women had access to Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) facility where, among other things, operations, caesarean sections and safe blood transfusions can be performed.Remembering President Jakaya Kikwete's speech last year before the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who heads Bloomberg Philanthropies, he pledged for the government’s commitment in cutting down maternal mortality rates in Tanzania.“It is not fair for a woman to die because of giving birth or while giving life to another human being. It’s not acceptable. Sadly, women and children die of causes that can be prevented," he said. The government had also pledged to increase CEmONC services availability to reach 50% ahead of the Millennium Development Goal’s deadline in 2015.The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood in Tanzania urges everyone to take action. It is running a special campaign targeting Tanzanians in their respective positions to be accountable.Be Accountable so Mama can Survive Childbirth. Is a campaign urging you. You can do something for the survival of mothers and babies. Join us in urging the government to set aside a budget line in the 2014/2015 financial year for, specifically for CEmONC.Please follow the link below:http://chn.ge/17nXKEi
