MamaYe Nigeria collaborates with NBTS on blood donation activities to address shortage of blood where it is required to save lives of mothers and newborns.
The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has praised MamaYe Nigeria for its tremendous support and contribution to the success of the world blood donor day commuity based celebration. In a letter of appreciation signed by Dr Adaeze Oreh of NBTS Abuja Centre, NBTS stated that the huge success of this year's community based World Blood Donor Day would not have been possible without MamaYe's support.Availability of safe blood and functional blood banks are very important to save lives of pregnant women in labour and newborns. In 2010, it is estimated that 26% of maternal deaths in sub-Saharan Africa were directly related to lack of blood. In Nigeria, only 0.2 blood units per 1,000 population were collected in 2010 (evidence), which was way less than 10% of the WHO recommendation.MamaYe! appreciates voluntary blood donors and calls on everyone to donate blood voluntarily to save lives of mothers and babies.See some of MamaYe's heroes and heroines on blood donation
