  • Prematurity is the leading cause of mortality in the first month of life in Ghana, with one in three newborn deaths due to preterm birth complications.
  • Ghana ranks 25th in the world for the number of babies born preterm.
  • Every year, 113,500 babies are born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are completed. Of these babies, 8,000 die every year.
