To mark World Blood Donor Day on 14 June 2015 MamaYe have produced this factsheet to summarise the evidence on Ghana’s blood services. It includes how much blood is collected and how much blood is needed.
Mama Ye has produced this factsheet to summarise the evidence on Ghana’s blood services, including how much blood is collected and how much is needed.Ghana’s National Blood Services are collecting just over 50% of the blood needed in Ghana. The factsheet covers:
- The importance of blood for preventing maternal deaths
- The 4 key components of World Health Organization’s strategy for safe and effective use of blood
- An overview of Ghana’s blood transfusion services, including: the organisation of the blood transfusion services in Ghana; blood safety and screening by the National Blood Service; the donor population; blood supply by the National Blood Service; and blood use towards maternal, newborn and child health.
