Bungoma Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health Network

The Bungoma Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Network is a coalition of civil society and media organisations working in Bungoma County, Kenya. This coalition was established in November 2020 formalising a working relationship among local civil society and media who had engaged together since 2017.

Priority areas of focus

The coalition identified poor access to Antenatal Care (ANC) services, high rate of teenage pregnancy and weak referral systems as priority issues in Bungoma. It plays a central role in bringing together established networks and champions to jointly achieve accountability in the health sector. During public participation on the budget making process, the coalition has submitted memoranda which capture and highlight community priorities.

The Bungoma RMNCAH coalition has fostered a good working relationship with the county department of health services. They are co-opted members in a number of accountability mechanisms including Maternal Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) committees and RMNCAH Technical Working Group. Evidence generated from these mechanisms is used for advocacy.
