MamaYe is participating in this year's Mothers Fun Run taking place in Mchinji on 17th October, 2015.
The run will cover a 30km stretch, from Kamwendo Trading Center to Mchinji District Hospital.
Mother’s Day Fun Run is a Corporate Social Responsibility project of Nation Publications Limited dedicated to the cause of safe motherhood since 2005.
This project positively impacts the wellbeing of expectant mothers and their unborn children through provision of maternal and neonatal healthcare equipment and supplies to needy government hospitals and health centers.
The Fun Run usually concides with Malawi's Mothers Day Celebrations which falls on 15th October.
Selected project areas are those that have the highest maternal mortality rates in the country.
The following district hospitals have so far benefited from the project: Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Bwaila Hospital, Mzuzu Health Centre, Zomba Central Hospital, Dedza District Hospital, Karonga District Hospital, Thyolo District Hospital, Nkhotakota District Hospital, Rumphi District Hospital and Mangochi District Hospital.
This year, the Mother’s Day Fun Run goes to Mchinji District.
According to the organizers, NPL, data provided by Ministry of Health shows that Mchinji District has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the Central Region and faces a critical shortage of maternal and neonatal healthcare equipment hence its selection as the beneficiary for this year’s project.
Beneficiaries of the 2015 Mother’s Day Fun Run are:
- Mchinji District Hospital (which acts as a referral hospital at district level); and the
- following health centres: Kochilira, Mkanda, Kochilira, Nkwazi, Tembwe, Kapunga, Mikundi, Chipumi, Chiosya, Kagwa, Gumba and Namizana.
Mchinji is one of the Evidence for Action (E4A) districts where the MamaYe campaign is being implemented and as such aside from participating in the run, we will also be donating items.
